The NCCA will introduce new rules and regulations for the T20 competition starting April 28th, 2024. The aim is to offer more teams the chance to advance to the tournament's knockout stage, making the group stage more competitive. The new format allows for the season to start much later, which will hopefully allow for less rain-affected fixtures.
Instead of four groups of five, five groups of four counties will contest the season's opening weeks starting on April 28. A new Super 12s stage will be introduced on Sunday, May 19.
Twelve teams will qualify for the Super 12s from the group stages. They will be put into a three-team mini-league at a single venue. The Super 12s tournament will be played at four different venues, each with a single mini-league.
The winner of the mini-league will progress to Finals Day, which will be played at a new venue, Chester Boughton Hall, on Sunday, May 26, after two years at Tring Park CC in Hertfordshire.
"The T20 competition in 2023 was severely impacted by the weather, so this new format allows for a later start to the season in the hope that more cricket will be played,” said Richard Logan, NCCA Operations Director.
“The Super 12s will offer more teams the chance to advance to the tournament's knockout stage, making the group stage more competitive.”
